Training to become an equine therapist

A course for equine therapists will be offered at equinus® - therapy for horses in Gaimersheim near Ingolstadt/Bavaria-Germany. The training programme is directed at professionals in the horseindustry, the therapeutic and medical branches and all those interested in horses, who intend to work professionally with horses in future.

equinus® - equine therapists pass a sound education and follow the all-embracing system of caring and treating horses. This does not only include the therapeutic treatment in the sense of using manual technics, but also the equine therapy-riding, the equine therapy-riding-lessons for horse owners, as well as the mental and stressfree riding for fearful equestrians, beginners and riders with little experience with horses.

Instruction at equinus® - therapy for horses places great emphasis on sound knowledge and practical experience. The training program can be booked as a one-year-intensive-course (half-day training on 5 days a week) or as a one-year-correspondence-course combined with several workshops all held in Gaimersheim near Ingolstadt. The curriculum which is arranged for "Intensive students" requires practically just less other time for learning the lecture subject. "Correspondence students" have to invest about half an hour daily for learning during their leisure time in addition to the workshops.

This enables all those who work fulltime or live far away from Ingolstadt to acquire professional training, too. Due to the fact that 50 % of the lessons are practical (more than 300 lessons with horses), every graduate receives enough experience in equine therapy for founding an equine therapy surgery.

An additional practical during the course is not necessary for the commercial practice as equine therapist, as sufficient practical experience for a livelihood is acquired through sound instruction being part of the curriculum.

The theoretical and practical lectures take place in equinus® own Academy- & Riding Center in Gaimersheim near Ingolstadt. For the practical lessons the students are using the school-horses owned by equinus®.

Private horses can be used for the practical training in arrangement with the study director. The lectures are held by competent and qualified lecturers with appropriate practical experience. The curriculum includes such subjects as manual therapy technics, Myology (science of muscles), Anatomy, therapy methods with high-tech equipment (Laser, Tens, Neurostim and Magnetic-field-applicators), horse science, how to run an equine therapy surgery, equine therapy riding, gymnastics and somatology.

This foundation is absolutely necessary for confident use, giving the future client the assurance of a competent and respectful handling of his horse. The training at equinus® - therapy for horses concludes with the attainment of the Diploma for equine therapy.

The training programme for equine therapists is not yet state certified in Germany and therefore not legally protected. Until the occupation is state certified, a horse therapist can operate commercially, however is not controlled by law, such as is the case for human-physiotherapists.

Our training broschures can be downloaded or send by mail. All prospective customers and students are welcome to visit our academy. Therefore please contact us in advance to arrange an appointment.
